Your wedding day is a significant and treasured occasion in your life. It’s the start of a new chapter in your life, but it’s also a time to celebrate with your friends and family, the people who helped you grow up and get to where you are now.

To express how important these individuals are to you, it is usual to reward some of your loved ones with positions of honor during the ceremony, such as the maid of honor or best man.

In most circumstances, young girls—nieces or young family members of the couple—are given the job of “flower girl,” but one bride went a different route: she assigned the position to her four grandparents!

Lydia Raby had gotten engaged, and her wedding date was set for September 22, 2019. She knew she wanted to incorporate a special section for four essential ladies in her life when she was preparing for her wedding reception.

‘I knew as soon as I got engaged that I wanted to include my grandmas,’ according to Lyndsey in an interview with HuffPost.

‘I felt so fortunate to have them all present and wanted them to be a part of it.’

The group of grandmothers included the 90-year-old great-grandmother of the bride, two grandmothers, and the grandmother of the groom.

‘Here Comes the Bride’ was scrawled on the flower bags the four bridesmaids tossed down the aisle in matching blue lace dresses.

A photographer from Benton, Tennessee, named Natalie Caho, attended the wedding and captured the memorable occasion. She had never seen any other flower girls like them.

Caho remarked on Instagram, ‘I’ve seen a lot of lovely flower girls in my day, but these four beauties top the cake.’

They appeared to be the life of the party and a unique and unforgettable part of the wedding.

‘I was not anticipating the degree of attitude these girls brought when Lyndsey informed me she had her grandmothers as her flower girls!’ Caho added.

‘All day, their excitement was that of a young girl in the same situation, and they had so much joy being such a major part of Lyndsey’s day and sharing the spotlight with her,’ Caho said.

‘It only demonstrates that age is nothing more than a number.’

Some of us are lucky to have aging family members who can impart wisdom and experience to us. On her wedding day, a lady may find it most pleasant to be around a group of sympathetic ladies who have experienced it all before.

For your knowledge:

A traditional wedding

While younger children are often used as flower girls in wedding celebrations, Tennessee bride Lyndsey Raby made the unconventional choice to ask her four grandmothers to fill the role, and they did so with enthusiasm.

  1. They looked so amazing!

Insider reports that 90-year-old Kathleen Brown, 70-year-old Joyce Raby, 76-year-old Wanda Grant, and 72-year-old Betty Brown were ecstatic to be in the bridal party for Raby, and they looked terrific in matching blue lace suits and coats.

2. Natalia Caho, a wedding photographer, was struck by their attitudes.

“When Lyndsey told me she had her grandmothers as her flower girls, I was not expecting the level of sass these girls brought!” Caho admitted.

“Their energy all day was that of a little girl in the same position, and they had so much fun all day being such a big part of Lyndsey’s day and sharing the spotlight with her. It truly just goes to show that age is just a number.”

  1. From the minute she got engaged, Raby knew she wanted her grandparents to be a part of her special day.

“I felt so blessed to have them all here, so I wanted them to be involved too,” Raby explained to the Huffington Post.

  1. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have grandparents.

As Caho correctly emphasized to the Huffington Post,

“Most girls are lucky to even have one grandmother present. And the fact that [Lyndsey] had four was a big deal that she wanted to savor.”

  1. Weddings are meant to be memorable occasions, and this one certainly was.

To be extraordinary, you don’t have to abide by the norm. It is all about personalizing the ceremony and making it meaningful to you in any manner you want. Without her grandparents, Raby knew her day wouldn’t be complete, and it was a day she’ll never forget.

Did you notice this?

Before you moan about being the only bridesmaid once again,

  1. Get awesome gifts.

Yes, you must purchase a present for the bride, but you will also get one. The bride says “thank you” for serving as her real maid of honor throughout the wedding preparation week. The presents are remarkable, from complimentary meals to spa services.

  1. Nobody expects me to be attractive.

After all, it’s the bride’s big day. I’m only filling in at her side and walking a groomsman down the aisle. Bridesmaids aren’t expected to look amazing. All we have to do is a match. It’s like being the popular girl at prom who doesn’t care what she wears.

3. A few of my pals are fashionable.

I’ve been slamming dresses, but at least half of my friends have good taste. This means I wear a beautiful gown in front of hundreds of people and am not ashamed to do so again. It’s like eating your cake while also wearing it.
