Adopters frequently overlook older shelter dogs, but these dogs need affection too. Every dog should be able to enjoy their golden years in a loving environment.
As a result of two friends providing her with a foster home and their commitment to making the dog’s final weeks of life as memorable as possible, one sweet senior canine is now leaving the world with a bang.
According to 9News, Dallas, Texas resident Lauren Siler learned about Annie, a 19-year-old shelter canine who needed a home. She claimed that the dog’s former owners “dumped at the shelter” the animal.
Since Annie didn’t have long to live, it appeared that she would have to spend the remainder of her days in a shelter.Β βThe vet had said sheβll be lucky if itβs a month,βΒ Lauren told 9News.
However, Lauren and Lisa Flores, who is also Lauren’s roommate and best friend, were so moved by Annie’s tale that they chose to adopt her as a foster child. Lauren remembered, βI saw her sweet little face sitting in her poor little kennel.β
The two roommates started posting updates about Annie’s exploits on social media and made a commitment to make the dog’s time left on earth as memorable as they could by creating a “bucket list” of exciting things Annie could do.
The fosters announced on Instagram that βAnnie is about to have the best month of her 19 years.β βShe will know love, she will be treated like a princess, and get lots of snuggles, ice cream, and hamburgers. When her time comes and she tells us she is done, she wonβt be alone at a shelter.β
Even though Annie was only expected to survive for a few weeks, she is still going strong months later and is having the time of her life.
She has been given sandwiches at drive-through restaurants like Whataburger and In-N-Out:
She had her own birthday celebration.
Spent the Fourth of July swimming in a pool:
Painted a picture:
Additionally, recently there has been a Halloween spirit:
Annie has received a lot of love from people all over the globe in addition to her two foster children since her story went viral.
The numerous gifts and letters that people give her are documented in posts on her social media.
βSome of her Instagram reels have had like 4.2 million views,β Lauren told 9News. βWe had to get a P.O. box for her fan mail.β
Nobody anticipated Annie to last as long as she has, so perhaps she is just having too much joy to give up just yet.
The adoptive parents continue to treat Annie like a princess despite knowing that her time will come sooner rather than later.
Lauren told 9News, βUntil sheβs ready to go, weβre going to let her keep living life.βΒ Β βIt would have broken my heart more for her to have her last day in the shelter.β
What a charming tale. We are so grateful Annie has these two amazing friends to make her final days so special because all dogs deserve a loving environment to spend the remainder of their lives.
