Like most other parents, Stacy and Babajide, who live in Lagos, Nigeria, sincerely wanted their cherished daughter to have a brother or sister.
Nevertheless, when she and her husband went in for an ultrasound, they were met with a stunning surprise that neither of them had expected.
Stacy, a Nigerian woman who was 31 years old when she found out she was having twins, was happy when she got the news, but the woman from Nigeria could never have imagined what would happen after she began giving birth.
Stacy was happy to finally be going through with the planned cesarean section when she finally arrived at the hospital. The mother and the father were astounded when they looked at their sons’ faces, despite the mother’s previous knowledge that her sons, Daniel, and David Omirin, were growing healthily.
The remarkable identical twins entered the world on February 26, 2019, and their births were only a few minutes apart. Yet, the one thing that Daniel and David had in common was the size and color of their brown eyes. Other than that, there were no similarities between them.
Daniel received his older sister Demilade’s dark skin tone and wavy black hair at birth, making him almost identical to his sibling. On the other hand, David was born with golden curls and white skin.
Stacy and her husband are black, so the boys’ different looks were a huge surprise.
“We did not know about their differences while I was pregnant, the scan did not show much, so it was a huge surprise and the most amazing moment when the first twin (Daniel) came out with black hair and the second twin (David) came out with gold hair,” Stacy remarked.
“I had them through CS, so the doctors were like: ‘It seems you are having unidentical twins.’ Before I knew it, nurses started coming out to look at them”.
The twins’ appearance left people puzzled – Stacy claims that many people find it difficult to believe that she is the mother of both children and that Babajide is the father of both. She also claims that many people find it difficult to accept that Babajide is the father of both children.
After the infants were born, the mother was so happy that she was completely oblivious to their appearance. She can recall the words of the nurse present when Daniel was delivered.
“Daniel came first, and the nurse said the second baby had golden hair. I thought, how can this be possible? I looked down and saw David; he was completely white,” Stacy told The Daily Mail.
She wasn’t certain how her husband would respond to the news. Fortunately, he reacted as a respectable father would have.
“Their dad was overwhelmed and immediately named My Twin 2 (David) ‘Golden,’ so he fondly calls him Mr. Golden. He was all overjoyed seeing his boys. He stood for more than 10 minutes staring at them and said he was looking at God’s wonderful work and that they are his best gift ever,” Stacy said.
It is no surprise that the twins share the same mother and father. But David has a condition known as oculocutaneous albinism, which is present from birth. Albinism is a rare genetic disorder resulting in a lack of pigmentation in the affected individual’s skin, eyes, and hair, giving them a distinctive appearance.
At first, the mother of three was worried about David’s well-being and how other people would respond to him. She was also concerned about how others would react to him. This disorder is linked to various other health issues, including sensitivity to sunlight and issues affecting the eyes. Fortunately, David has not had to deal with significant health problems.
There are allegedly over two million persons in Nigeria who are affected by the genetic condition known as albinism. Albinism is estimated to affect between one in every 5,000 and one in every 15,000 people born in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the World Health Organization.
One person in every 20,000 in Europe and North America is affected by albinism in some way. In Nigeria, living with albinism can be a challenging experience. Thankfully, Stacy has not yet encountered the frequent discrimination and questions directed at them.
“They’re always side talks whenever we go out, people often want to know how and what’s happening, and maybe due to their cute and adorable nature, you just wanna come close to say hello,” she says.
Modeling companies have gotten in touch with the family because they are seeking to have David and Daniel be a part of their campaigns due to their outstanding appearances.
Stacy, who also happens to be a fashion designer, secretly hopes that both of her sons will follow careers in modeling. But, she is now focusing on spreading awareness and educating others about David’s condition.
As of this day, the mother has created an Instagram account through which people may learn more about the boys and see them develop as they get older.
Although the boys are identical twins and have the closest friendships, they have distinct personalities and interests. Daniel is more outgoing and has a passion for good food. He enjoys taking a step back every once in a while to survey his environment. Yet, both of the boys are wonderful and kind children.
“People say “Excuse me, madam, which one of the kids is yours?’ I say both are mine, and people look at me as if I am joking. But I was also surprised when they were born, even as their mum. When the doctor told me my kids were not identical, I didn’t know what to expect. But then I saw they had different color hair and skin, and I couldn’t believe it, so I’m not surprised other people are shocked, too.”
What a charming account of events! It is quite enjoyable to read about David and Daniel and look at their images since they are so cute.
And let’s not forget that what’s important is what’s on the inside—I do not doubt that the boys will grow up to be beautiful people in this world!
