During a recent interview with Ashley Graham, actor Hugh Grant may have come off grumpy, but his friend and fellow Hollywood star Drew Barrymore had his back. She defended him, saying that what people expect from a charming movie star is not always what they get, and in Hugh’s case, they may have gotten grumpy Hugh. However, she added that even with his grumpiness, people couldn’t help but fall in love with him. Drew’s comments were a reminder that celebrities are humans, too, and that not everyone is always in the best mood.

During a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew Barrymore shared her thoughts on Hugh Grant’s infamous curmudgeonly personality. The actress, who worked with Grant on the film Music and Lyrics, revealed that he once called her singing “horrendous.” However, Barrymore assured fans that Grant’s comments were not meant to be taken seriously and were just his way of expressing his love. The actress also defended Grant’s recent awkward interview with Ashley Graham at the Oscars, explaining that the grumpy demeanor fans saw was the “real” Hugh Grant.

During a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew spoke about Hugh Grant and his comments about her singing in their movie “Music and Lyrics.” She said, “If you know Hugh, that is his way of loving you.” She then addressed the viral moment at the Oscars where Grant had an awkward interview with Ashley Graham. Drew explained, “People are like, ‘Oh, he’s such a curmudgeon, and she’s so thrown.’ But that’s just who Hugh is. You think you’re getting this charming movie star, and what you get is grumpy Hugh. And then you fall in love with grumpy Hugh.”

Drew clarified that when Grant commented on her singing, he was just being funny and didn’t mean anything negative. She emphasized, “The person that Ashley Graham met on that carpet is the real Hugh.”

In the direct speech, Drew said, “If you know Hugh, that is his way of loving you. People say, ‘Oh, he’s such a curmudgeon, and she’s so thrown.’ But that’s just who Hugh is. You think you’re getting this charming movie star, and what you get is grumpy Hugh. And then you fall in love with grumpy Hugh.” She then explained that Grant’s comment about her singing was meant to be funny and not negative. She emphasized, “The person that Ashley Graham met on that carpet is the real Hugh.”

During Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew Barrymore revealed that it took her a moment to get used to Hugh Grant’s behavior. She admitted, “It took me a second.” She also sympathized with Ashley Graham’s experience on the red carpet, saying, “Probably like Ashley Graham on the carpet, like, ‘who am I dealing with?'” Drew added that she eventually fell in love with the real Hugh, saying, “And then I was like, oh, no, I love you. I want to love you. You’re not letting me love you. As I got to know him, I was like I love you. I love you for real you. He is a hilarious, good human being.”

Hugh Grant’s appearance at the Oscars 2023 proved quite awkward as he faced an uncomfortable interview with Ashley Graham during ABC’s Countdown to Oscars 95 pre-show. The British actor presented at the event, and when asked by Graham if he was excited to see anyone in particular, he responded, “no one in particular.”

Things got more uncomfortable when Graham asked Grant about who designed his tuxedo, and he admitted he couldn’t remember the name of his tailor. When asked about his cameo in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Grant replied with a lackluster response, saying he was barely in the film for three seconds and that he had only “almost” enjoyed doing it.

Although the interview seemed to rub some people the wrong way, Drew Barrymore came to Grant’s defense, saying it was just his “grumpy” personality shining through. She explained that once people get to know him, they fall in love with the real Hugh, a hilarious and good human being.

In a recent video interview with Wired, actor Hugh Grant reminisced about his 2007 romantic comedy co-star, Drew Barrymore. Grant couldn’t resist teasing Barrymore’s singing abilities, stating that “her singing is horrendous. I’ve heard dogs bark better than she sings.” However, he did acknowledge that Barrymore’s heart and passion for music were evident in her performance.

Barrymore, being the good sport she is, responded to Grant’s comment with an Instagram video of her singing the tune in question. She playfully acknowledged Grant’s teasing, calling him by the wrong name and adding, “That’s for you.” The video showcased Barrymore’s sense of humor and willingness to laugh at herself.

It’s clear that despite Grant’s playful teasing, he and Barrymore have a strong working relationship and friendship. The two have worked together on multiple projects over the years and have always spoken highly of each other in interviews.
