At Teton High School, an older woman named Cheryl Stewart was required to work an emergency shift. She learned the school had called her in for something else when she entered.

Each of us is put to the test in different ways by life. Some people must deal with health issues, while others must navigate a difficult financial situation.

A person may occasionally have to deal with both their health and their money at the same time. The main character in our tale went through something comparable but finally chose to keep going. She had no idea that a substantial reward was just around the next bend in the road, waiting for her to claim it.

HARD DAYS

Cheryl Stewart, who worked as a lunch lady at Teton High School, also cleaned the buildings that housed the Forest Service and the Seminary after her shift. The older woman struggled to make ends meet as the family’s sole provider.

Stewart would also sometimes make rolls for funerals held in the area. Because her husband was at home recovering from prostate cancer and lupus, she put in much effort to make ends meet.

Stewart worked most of the day, but she never complained. Despite the challenges that life provided her with, she never lost her cheery disposition, and as a result, she earned the admiration and affection of those around her.

COMMUTE TO WORK TO WORK

Before the engine blew, Stewart used to drive in her van. She had to borrow a vehicle from a family member to get to work.

Eaton reached into his pocket and withdrew a small red box, which he then passed to Stewart, who was in awe of what was happening.

She had no idea then that she would soon be free from worrying about getting to work on time. Outside the school’s building, she would find a surprise waiting for her.

ADJUST IN EMERGENCY

In December 2018, Stewart got a call from Teton High School requesting her to work an emergency shift. The selfless woman swiftly got ready and went to work.

A man wearing a Santa hat asked Stewart where she was a few minutes after she walked into the cafeteria. She gave him a friendly greeting, and he replied:

“I’m Nate with East Idaho News. A Secret Santa sent us on a mission today to find you.”

A SURPRISE FOR HER

Stewart covered her mouth with her palm as she stared in disbelief at Nate Eaton and his team. She knew he had come to visit her to present her with something, but she had no idea what it was.

Eaton reached into his pocket and extracted a small red box, which he then passed to Stewart, who was in awe of what was happening. He then requested that she open the box and said:

“There’s a $100 there, and then we have another small gift for you.”

Eaton provided her with a second box comparable to the first and requested that she open it. When Stewart cracked open the box and peered inside, her eyes grew larger.

“Secret Santa bought you a car.”

Stewart asked Eaton if he was sincere as tears rolled down her cheeks. She had difficulty accepting that someone had given her a brand-new SUV as a present.

It felt unreal.

Stewart felt like he had stepped into a dream when he saw her brand-new car. Even after she had a chance to try driving, the older woman kept saying she couldn’t believe it. When Eaton questioned her about how the present would benefit her, she responded as follows:

“This is going to help me so much. We struggled so much. Oh, thank you so much!”

Nate Eaton received an unexpected visitor at his workplace three years later. Stewart entered the room bearing some delicious cinnamon rolls that she had prepared. She had the impression that her Secret Santa had improved the quality of her existence, and she was grateful for it.
