Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been married for the longest time in Hollywood. They have raised two beautiful children who have followed their parents’ paths in the three decades they have been married.
After performing a DNA test years after marriage, the “Footloose” actor and “The Closer” actress discovered they were distant cousins.
Even though the test findings were unsettling, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick’s relationship has grown stronger.
Bacon and Sedgwick’s Love Affair
Kevin Bacon, born July 8, 1958, and Kyra Sedgwick, born August 19, 1965, first met in a performance in the 1970s. Sedgwick was 12 then and had just seen the matinée with her sibling.
They reconnected in 1987 while working on the PBS documentary “Lemon Sky.” At the time, Sedgwick was convinced that Bacon was not her type.
When he hopped into the van after his labrador, she saw him as aloof and cocky. Sedgwick also thought Bacon thought of himself as sophisticated.
In an interview, she said she was surprised that some girls admired his backside as he walked away. Sedgwick had no idea that would be one of her favorite aspects of Bacon’s anatomy.
While Sedgwick thought Bacon was distant, he thought she was distant but lovely. He immediately fell in love with her while turning her off.
The actress from “Labor Pains” later discovered Bacon was a nice guy, and the couple married on September 4, 1988. She was 23 at the time, and Bacon was 30.
Sedgwick had no idea she’d be wedded so soon. She had begun working professionally at 16 and wanted to be a great actor, and settling down with a child at 23 was not part of her goals.
Bacon described himself as a slob who resided in a pigsty when he first left home when they were young. He also characterized his first apartment as being a roach-filled disaster. On the other hand, Sedgwick was noisier than Bacon when they first met.
They have kept the chaos at bay in their house by celebrating their small victories and moments together, such as their ‘first selfie.’
Bacon went to Instagram to share their first photo, in which they posed in beachwear. Sedgwick was dressed in a high-cut black bikini, while Bacon wore beach shorts with his arm around her.
The pair appeared to be in love and adorable. Bacon reminded the younger generation that cameras and phones used to be two separate things!
More on the Sweet Request
Bacon proposed to Sedgwick during the Christmas holidays, just a few months into their engagement. He put the ring he purchased in the toe of the stocking, popped the question, and she said, “yes.”
Decades after their marriage, the couple admitted that it wasn’t always rainbows and sunshine, as they once had what they describe as their biggest fight.
Sedgwick wished to return to Manhattan, while Bacon preferred to remain in Connecticut. The fight was lengthy, but the pair learned not to ‘hit below the belt.’
They’re not built that way, and they’ve learned over time that they don’t want to fight. They’ve learned to discuss issues and come to a consensus on what’s best for them.
And sometimes, doing what is best for them may entail one individual making sacrifices that benefit the entire family. They recognize when it is their time to lead.
When they began having children, Sedgwick realized she needed to be there for them and decided to take a break from her career. She worked much less and stayed in New York because they wanted to raise their children in New York, even though more employment was available in Los Angeles.
The couple decided to trace their ancestors.
Years ago, the couple decided to participate in PBS’s “Finding Your Roots,” a television program about family ancestry, and Bacon was astounded by the results.
Bacon’s ancestors were tracked back to Bristol, and he discovered that his 22nd great-grandfather was King Edward I, the “Hammer of the Scots” who fought William Wallace.

It was also discovered that Bacon is Brad Pitt’s 13th cousin twice removed. He and President Obama are 12th cousins, three times removed, with a common ancestor called Anthony Woolhouse.
Not only that but Sedgwick was introduced to her 9th relative once removed. Her husband occurred to be her cousin. ‘She knew it,’ Sedgwick cried, but Bacon wasn’t so sure.
Even though Bacon joked that he wasn’t receiving enough respect because of who he was related to, he didn’t consider being cousins with his wife a form of flattery.
“I felt like it was a joke at my expense.”
The revelation was “a little unsettling,” according to Sedgwick, but she was alright with it as long as they were not first cousins.
Sedgwick’s Relationship Views
With their marriage being one of the longest in Hollywood, Sedgwick is frequently approached by people who want to know the secret to her effective and long marriage.
Although she jokes that the secret to a happy marriage is to avoid celebrity marriage advice, she thinks she and Bacon were fortunate.
She does have one piece of advice: people must have a piece of wholeness within themselves before allowing someone to love them the way they need to be loved.
Bacon went to Instagram on their wedding anniversary in 2021 to share a photo of him dancing with his wife. He cheered in the caption by dancing through life with Sedgwick, reminding her that she is the cause.
Bacon and Sedgwick are happy parents of two self-sufficient children. Travis, their first child, was born on June 23, 1989, studied audio engineering and made his acting début in “Loverboy” in 2005.
With his musical passion, he joined the metal band White Widows Pact in 2015 before joining Black Anvil as a guitarist in 2016.

Travis is a solo musician who produced songs for his parents’ 2017 film “Story of a Girl” and has written music for other films while running a recording studio in New York.
Sosie, their daughter who loves to sing, was born on March 15, 1992, studied acting and musical theater, made her acting debut in 2005’s “Loverboy,” and has since featured in a slew of films and TV programs.
On motherhood, Sedgwick stated that she is not an overbearing mother like she was in “Call Your Mother.” She tried not to interfere and waited for her children to seek her opinion.
