Everyone’s perception of attractiveness is typically unique. True beauty consists of a person’s personality, good spirit, and everything else that makes them unique. Many individuals may grapple with beauty standards and the need to conform to societal norms.
However, physical appearance has nothing to do with a person’s worthiness or lovability; it may take people a long time to realize this. Today’s story is about a couple who defied the naysayers and proved that true love triumphs over all.

A BODY-POSITIVE INFLUENCER
Canadian body-positive influencer Alicia Mccarvell has over five million followers on the popular video-sharing platform TikTok. She is blissfully married to her childhood sweetheart, Scott Mccarvell, whom she met at age 15.
She frequently documents her married life on social media, where her videos receive millions of views and comments from internet users. In June 2022, Alicia uploaded a TikTok video of her cuddling with her spouse. The caption reads: “My forever wedding date.”
RECEIVING CRITICISM
Following their towel-clad appearance in the 12-second video, the couple appeared dressed and set to attend a wedding together. The viral video has received over 35.7 million views and over 60,000 comments.
Alicia reported that one commenter told her husband he should be with someone resembling her.
But contrary to her beliefs, Alicia reported that others heavily criticized her romantic moment with her spouse. She mentioned that some people believed Scott was with her because she was wealthy, while others speculated that he was covertly gay or had a “fat woman fetish.”
“WE DON’T MAKE SENSE”
However, that wasn’t all. According to the body-positive influencer, some believed she must not have been obese when her husband fell in love with her. As negative comments continued to rise, Alicia decided to release a second video in response. She stated: “I posted a simple transition video of me and my husband going from towels to dress up together. This is not unlike what all kinds of different couples do on this app. My video went viral, and I know we all know why. It’s because, by beauty standards, we don’t make sense.”
She claimed that when people glanced at her and Scott, they immediately regarded him as more valuable than her. Alicia stated that according to others, her and her husband’s relationship did not make logic, so they attempted to add elements to make it more sense.
THE SOCIAL BEAUTY REQUIREMENTS
The TikToker also addressed another germane issue: the societal beauty standards, which she believed many people had spent their entire lives attempting to meet. She went on: “We’ve been made to believe that somebody who is physically fit like Scott could never be in love with or compatible with a fat woman in a million years. And that’s solely because the world has taught us that we must value our worth [based] on our bodies.”
She expressed regret for those who believed their value in a relationship was solely determined by their physical aspect. Alicia reported that one commenter told her husband he should be with someone resembling her.
A PERSON’S TRUE VALUE
She stated that the woman who contacted Scott was a “10 out of 10 by beauty standards,” however, the value of a person was not determined by how well their bodies matched society’s beauty standards.
The TikToker stated that similar to how she had undervalued herself based on her physique, the commenter overvalued herself based on her appearance. Alicia stated that her spouse admired her for her sense of humor, love, dedication, and caring nature. She also revealed: “None of these things that [Scott] values about me change if my body changes. So when someone slides into his DMs leading with their body first, he’s asking, ‘But what else?'”
THE SUPPORTIVE COMMENTS
More than 20.5 million people have viewed Alicia’s response video, in which she retaliated against the internet abusers. In addition to the negative comments, her followers also sent her messages of support and encouragement. One individual wrote: “Your advocacy is incredible. You boost me every day!”
Another user stated: “I think it makes perfect sense! He’s lucky to have you! You are a doll!!!!” A third addition: “So well said & spoken. I don’t have words for how cruel ppl can be. You & Scott are both beautiful humans & I love that u found one another (sic).”
It never ceases to astound me how sad and bitter people can be when they project their insecurities and failures onto others.
“The comments come from pure jealousy. People want to be loved so badly and can’t handle it when someone else receives it. It’s sad (sic),” another user stated.
UNLEARNING THINGS
Alicia stated that she pushed Scott away for a long time because she did not believe she deserved his affection. She further disclosed: “I spent many years feeling like I wasn’t worthy of many things. Happiness, a great career, the love for my partner. Scott has been my partner since we were 15 years old. His love has never changed for me.”
The TikToker stated that she desired everyone to unlearn things and realize that their body had no bearing on who they were or what they were capable of, which she believed was incredibly liberating for humans.
The Mccarvells continue to share their love with the world. Their beautiful relationship demonstrates that regardless of what others say, what makes us attractive is our loving hearts and how we cherish and care for one another.
