Before they met, a man met the love of his life through a video of a female he had once seen.
The two never imagined they would ever find love because they were each born with unique talents.
But after actually meeting her, they fell in love, were married, and now want to try for children together, despite the consensus that it might not be the greatest decision for them.
A couple with neuroatypical disorders never dreamed they would be able to meet individuals who would accept them for who they are, much less meet the love of their lives and end up falling in love. Riley Emlen, a musician who plays six instruments and enjoys pasta, has Asperger syndrome, while Charlotte “Charlie” Fien has Down syndrome and autism.
The couple wed on July 30, 2022, and will shortly celebrate their first wedding anniversary in July of this year. The story of how the couple met is an unusual love affair that neither expected. Emlen saw Fien as the one for him when he saw her in a video.

He could not forget the stunning girl who would one day marry him. Emlen made no time to get down on one knee and pop the question to the love of his life after traveling halfway around the world (Fien was based in England then).
Since then, the cute couple hasn’t been able to be apart, and they soon hope to have children. What they did not expect, however, was to encounter unjustified criticism from the general public over their wish to establish a family.

Riley Emlen and Charlotte Fien’s Love Story: How a Match Made in Heaven AroseIn a conversation about their relationship, Emlen tells how he first met his future wife. The blue-eyed man was browsing through his Facebook feed when he saw a video on the BrightVibes page. Emlen was immediately mesmerized by the beauty of the young woman on the video giving the empowering speech.
Emlen chose to broadcast the video to his own stream after watching Fien’s speech, in which he addressed the need to defend the rights of individuals with impairments. Despite this, he admits that he didn’t get in touch with Fien until six months after he had reposted the video.
Emlen confessed that before he met Fien, he spent a long time wondering whether he would ever find his soulmate and, as a result, started to worry about whether he would ever be able to have children.
When Emlen and Fien first started dating, he thought she was too good to be true. Little did he know, however, that before the two had even started chatting, Fien had already researched him. Fien decided she liked what she saw and sent Emlen a friend request, starting a two-way conversation.
The two chose to refer to each other as best friends rather than anything more than friends throughout the initial chats, which were amicable. Fien, being the brave lady she is, decided to initiate contact and put Emlen in the position by enquiring whether he felt more than simply platonic affection for her.
Emlen put the discussion back in Fien’s hands and questioned what she would think if he had romantic feelings for her. He was trying to be calm and ensure she felt the same way he did about her. Only two months after having frequent discussions, Fien staked her claim over Emlen and told him she would be thrilled if he pursued a personal engagement with her.
It didn’t take long for the two to start discussing getting married when their relationship became formal. Fien said it was nothing short of miraculous, and she wasn’t anxious about taking the next significant step with Emlen. After upgrading to video conversations, the two ultimately met in person and had a fantastic week together.
After their first week of dating, Emlen traveled to England and stayed with Fien for an additional week. On their final day together, he summoned the nerve to ask Fien at The Drummond Pub in Guilford. Emlen was over the moon when he heard the long-awaited three-letter word “yes” on the big moment.
Emlen is the sweet, amazing, kind, kind, and humorous man of Fien’s dreams, whom she claims to love more every day. Fien was equally thrilled to announce their engagement. The cute couple is having a great time as newlyweds and has already started showing one other the affectionate gestures a spouse should give.

The couple’s explanation of what they mean by “love” emphasizes the importance of a constant connection. Emlen, who is devoted to them, describes their love as:
“Having a feeling for each other, you don’t just see, but also feel in the heart and having the sense that you’re together even when you’re in different places during the day.”
Because no one else will take better care of her spouse than him, Fien says she wants to spend her golden years with him. In addition to his handsome ruggedness, her husband’s kindness and sweetness are her favorites. Similarly, Emlen adores his wife’s beauty, friendliness, and love of travel, as well as the fact that he gets to see her every day after work.
The couple aspires to live happily ever after in a beautiful home and provide their future children with a happy life. To achieve these aims, they both wish to have successful careers. They look forward to welcoming children the most out of all the objectives.

What the Happy Couple Has in Store & Their Future Goals Together
Fien responds that they talk about children a lot when asked how often they do so. Emlen confessed that before he met Fien, he spent a long time wondering whether he would ever find his soulmate and, as a result, started to worry about whether he would ever be able to have children.
He claims that they began to talk about children quite a bit after they first met. Fien’s idea of a stable home includes her spouse learning to keep the house tidy and clean up after the kids.
The interviewer then asked Emlen if he believed that Fien had improved his self-confidence as they switched to how he perceived himself to have changed since meeting her. Emlen made the following remarks about it:
“Yeah. In many ways, yes, because I didn’t feel good about how I looked for many years. I felt like…I had long hair, [and] I was hiding behind my hair ’cause I wasn’t confident in my looks, but since she thinks I am handsome, that makes me feel more comfortable showing who I am.”

Despite what others may think of their parenting skills, the couple is most eager to become parents. After their wedding last year, Emlen shared the following message with his followers in a Facebook post to provide them an update on their relationship:
“[It’s important] to allow people with diverse abilities to come into the world…[and] they should be allowed to…have children. That’s right, have children, [and] we intend to within a few years. Some people don’t think aneurotypical people can raise children; well, as a paraeducator, I spend 30 hours a week during the school season practically raising a child…[and] Charlotte…has experience with them, too.”
Fien and Emlen’s romance is still going strong, and they enjoy having a married life together. Despite what others may think of a couple with Down syndrome, autism, and Asperger wanting to raise their children, the couple is demonstrating to anyone who may be skeptical of their talents that they are more than capable of doing anything they set their minds to.
