Melissa Gilbert, star of “Little House on the Prairie,” posted adorable photos of her rarely-seen curly-haired granddaughter.
The actress is a proud grandma of nine children and has spoken out about her role as a grandmother.
She and her spouse left Hollywood and moved to a rustic cabin closer to her large family.
Melissa Gilbert, best known for her role in “Little House on the Prairie,” surprised fans in 2022 by posting two adorable pictures of her rarely-seen granddaughter on social media. The star was sleeping in the photo with the adorable baby in her bosom.
Rosemary “Romy” Coates Busfield, the actress revealed, was the newest member of her family. The second image showed Gilbert smiling at the photographer while holding her grandchild against her shoulder.

She gushed in her caption about how she was in “absolute heaven” meeting her grandchild for the first time amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The actress even referred to herself as a “proud nana” and admitted she was in love.
Gilbert had always desired to be a grandmother, according to a friend of the actress. The star adored children and missed having babies around, but by early 2023, she had nine grandchildren to spoil.
The actress, who portrayed Laura “Half-Pint” Ingalls Wilder, was previously married to Bo Brinkman, with whom she had a son, Dakota. They had another child, Michael, with her ex-husband, Bruce Boxleitner.
Gilbert was married to her third spouse, Timothy Busfield, in 2023, and they were living quietly in a rustic cabin. The pair maintained a garden, grew food, and raised chickens while loving their puppy, Chicago.
Gilbert was able to spend more time with her family by living a much simpler existence away from the spotlight of Hollywood. In the following chapter, we learn more about her numerous grandkids and see what a few of them looked like.
What Are Melissa’s Kids Like?
Gilbert posted a new Instagram photo of one of her many grandkids on February 14, 2023. The young girl was seen peering through a doorway with her grandmother, who explained that she didn’t share many of her grandchildren’s photos out of respect for their parents.
However, she said she obtained approval to post a picture of little Ripley Lou for Valentine’s Day. The actress shared another adorable look at her curly-haired granddaughter in January 2023 when she posted a short video of the child dancing to a song.
Ripley Lou’s first birthday was honored on June 8, 2022, with a cute picture of the child holding a milk bottle and smiling while wearing a crown. Gilbert and her spouse were seen babysitting Rosemary in August 2022.
Gilbert also disclosed that four of their granddaughters’ names started with the letter “R.” Timothy’s granddaughter was described as a “sweet girl.” The second image revealed the actress’s mothering abilities as she rocked Rosemary to sleep against her shoulder.
Timothy’s wife shared another photo with one of her older grandchildren, Lulabelle, in the same month. In the picture, the actress did her grandchild’s hair and explained that the little girl had requested her to braid her hair.
In March 2018, the actress shared a close-up photo of herself with one of her grandkids and admitted that being around them was “total bliss.” She and her spouse spent time together in their quiet home while not babysitting.
Melissa and Her Husband’s Primitive Cabin Life
Gilbert once stated in 2022 that she was having a “hard time” living from a perspective where the “external mattered more than the internal.” She explained that she wished “to become more spiritual, more grounded, more at peace, more connected to my community, my family, my friends.”
The actress and her husband purchased a house that required work. When they moved in 2018, the home was riddled with rotting deer heads and holy water, and they spent nearly a year renovating it to meet their requirements.
The actress stated that starring in “Little House” opened her eyes to living near nature, which she now does. She remembered being on location with frogs in the pond, chickens, cows, horses, and everyone’s dogs.
Gilbert would be outside at Simi Valley’s ranch, always dirty and dusty, but she was “just gleeful and ecstatic.” The actress and her spouse moved into their new home in late 2019 and stayed there during the height of the pandemic.
The actress said she wishes she could remember 2020 vividly because it was a life-changing moment for the world, and she was a part of it. The child actress grew up in Los Angeles dreaming of living on a farm and got a taste of it while appearing in “Little House on the Prairie.”
Timothy’s wife even had her horse named Peanuts on the show, and she adored playing Laura because she aspired to be like her. Gilbert’s fantasy came true when she and her husband purchased the rustic cottage on 14 acres in New York’s Catskill Mountains.
The term combines the words “cottage” and “cabin.”
Gilbert acknowledged that her new home was exactly what she had wished for. In her later years, the actress adopted a more natural lifestyle than when she had cosmetic surgery, Botox, and fillers.
What altered for her was a mid-life reassessment. The actress explained how she grew up in a business that valued outward appearances over inner beauty and became obsessed with looking young.
She became happy, however, after changing her lifestyle. Gilbert believed she had worked hard to fit someone else’s mold, but she was now at ease in her “own skin,” relieved, thankful, and happier.
Gilbert wrote in her memoir, “Back to the Prairie: A Home Remade, A Life Rediscovered,” about how important it was for her and Timothy to have a location to escape. They dubbed their new house “the cabbage” after closing on it in January 2019.
The term combines the words “cottage” and “cabin.” After that, the pair started planning and deciding how to renovate their new home.
