A young, impoverished orphan purchases a used stroller for her daughter from a flea market, only for the child to discover something inside that will forever impact her life.
In a foster home, Kerry Donavan met her future husband, Tyler. The two had grown to be each other’s entire lives after becoming orphans at an early age. After graduating from high school, they married immediately, and it seemed like they were starting a happy life together.
They felt it was time to start a family after five years because Tyler had a nice job as a construction company supervisor, adequate health insurance, and a fair wage.

Kerry soon learned she was expecting, much to Kerry’s delight, and everything appeared ideal for the happy pair until Tyler had a horrific accident at work. He had a serious back injury after falling from the third story.
When Kerry heard that her husband had suffered a major injury, she was at home because she had quit her job as a secretary in the seventh month of her pregnancy.
She hurried to the hospital, and her anxiety was so great that she gave birth weeks before her due date. The most joyful time in her life was also the most difficult.
Doctors informed Kerry that Tyler would never walk a few hours again after their daughter Leila was born. Six months after entering the hospital, Tyler was wheeled out.
Although Tyler received a disability income and other benefits from the insurance, the family was struggling financially, especially since they had a young baby. Tyler was adamant that he would take care of the infant when Kerry decided to return to work.
Kerry was frequently required to work the night shifts after landing a job at a busy diner. Fortunately, Ms. Higgs, a colleague, became a close friend. Mrs. Higgs was a cheery woman in her early sixties who smiled a lot.

Kerry’s family and Mrs. Higgs frequently shared Sunday supper. On a Sunday, Kerry admitted that she was putting money aside to buy Leila a stroller.
Kerry told Mrs. Higgs, “I want to get a stroller, but they are expensive. Several hundred dollars!
Only if you purchase it brand-new, Mrs. Higgs exclaimed. “A lovely stroller costing $50 was purchased at the flea market by the daughter of one of my acquaintances.”
Kerry asked cynically, “Really?
A hidden hand can sometimes do acts of kindness.
Yes, Mrs. Higggs replied. People sell strollers since they are pricey, and kids only use them for a year or two. I’ll take you to the flea market, I swear to you.

Kerry and Mrs. Higgs visited the flea market the following weekend; sure enough, there was a gorgeous vintage stroller! Mrs. Higgs gave it a thorough inside and out inspection and approved that it was in good shape.
Kerry eagerly rolled the stroller home after paying for it. She then thoroughly cleaned the stroller from top to bottom, but as she washed the seat cushions, she discovered an envelope underneath.
Kerry put the mail away to prepare the stroller; it would be three days before she remembered it again. When Kerry discovered the envelope, she was cleaning off her desk.
She opened it after turning it over. One piece of paper was present within. It said, “If you are a young mother reading this like I was, you are likely also dead and buried. I’m hoping I can transform your life in a way that’s for the better. Find the oak under House 8 on Third Avenue.”

Kerry visited the address listed on the message the following day and discovered an old, abandoned house with a large, ancient oak tree in the garden casting a shade across a white stone.
Could this area contain hidden treasure? Kerry was as thrilled as a child on Christmas morning but a little embarrassed to believe it. She returned the following day with a shovel and began excavating beneath the oak.
She spent days digging that yard with no luck. When Kerry saw this message in her locker, she was about to give up. “You shouldn’t be digging. Under the oak, what you’re looking for is right there in plain sight.”
Kerry shrieked. The enigmatic note was written in the same hand as the one in the stroller! She hurried back that afternoon and took another look at the stone beneath the oak.

The more closely she looked, the more concrete rather than stone appeared to be there. Kerry took up her shovel and struck the “stone” forcefully. Kerry repeatedly hammered it until it finally broke, but it cracked first.
The “stone” finally broke. A little metal safe with a lock and a key was inside. Kerry was thrilled to discover several large bills and what appeared to be a fortune in gems inside the box.
Another note, reading, “My beloved, life brought me love and fortune, but what I most wanted was a child,” was placed on top of the treasure. After many years of trying, God finally blessed my husband and me with a lovely daughter. She sadly wasn’t ours for too long. My spouse did not live to see the loss of our lovely girl, who passed very young. She would have been your age and, hopefully, similar to you. Be joyful, my dear.
Kerry hurried back to Tyler while harboring an unsettling suspicion. There was only one guy who could provide for them! Who else had access to both her locker and the stroller?

She was ready to confront her friend and convey her gratitude when she got to work, but Mrs. Higgs had left. The manager of the diner claimed that Mrs. Higgs abruptly left and informed him that she was relocating to a farm in Montana.
Kerry noticed that she had given a forwarding address, and her benefactor’s handwriting was the same! Kerry felt her heart shatter at losing her buddy and was now certain that Mrs. Higgs had hidden the note in the stroller.
Together, Tyler and Kerry sat down and devised a strategy. Kerry and Tyler made a road trip to Montana after purchasing a wonderful small house with an additional room and a unique car that Tyler could drive with the money and gems.
While Mrs. Higgs was startled to see them arrive in their car, she grinned as Kerry embraced her. “Kerry embraced Mrs. Higgs and exclaimed, “It was you all along! Please, Mrs. Higgs; I don’t want to lose you!”

Kerry and Tyler extended Mrs. Higgs an invitation to return to the city and live with them. “Mrs. Higgs, I realized how much I loved you until you left. Would you mind returning with us?”
Kerry stated: “I am aware that I cannot replace your girl, but Leila, Tyler, and I all need a grandmother. We hoped you would accept the position…”
Mrs. Higgs accepted, tears welling up in her eyes. Life appeared to be an adventure for the first time in many years, and she ultimately got to share in the joy she’d helped to create.
