While competing in an ultramarathon in Australia six years ago, former model Turia Pitt, now 27 years old, became trapped in a bushfire and was forced to abandon her race. The fire seriously burned 64 percent of her body. The medical staff warned that there was a possibility that she wouldn’t make it.
Michael Hoskin, who was dating Turia at the time of the accident, decided to give up his job as a police officer to care for her full-time. He has never forgotten her and has always been there to protect and help her. Michael realized he was going nowhere.
Since the accident, Turia has undergone 200 different operations. She was forced to spend more than two years recovering after losing seven fingers.
During an interview in 2020, she addressed the terrifying ordeal of being engulfed in flames while participating in a 100 km race in a remote part of Western Australia.
“I remember seeing bits of my skin stuck to the rocks and spinifex,” Pitt said, explaining that she felt a “bubbling feeling of panic.”
Michael popped the ask to Turia in 2015 using the diamond ring he had bought for her while she was sick and receiving intensive care four years prior. Michael claims that he posed the question to her while they were on their vacation to the Maldives.
“When Turia was in intensive care four years ago, I bought a diamond ring,” Michael tells The Daily Mail.
To facilitate the healing process of her wounds, Turia was required to keep a mask on her face for two years. She started to feel better, if somewhat hesitantly, at first. Every day, Michael informs his bride, “You’re beautiful.”
2016 was the year that the couple got married.
Turia expresses her gratitude to Michael for all the support he has given her throughout the past seven challenging years, most of which she has spent in medical facilities.
“Going to sleep next to my partner I never thought of before. Now I think how lucky I am to sleep next to this beautiful man. He’s a good guy, and I’m very lucky to have him,” Turia Pitt tells the Daily Mail.
“Every day I wake up beside Michael is a great day.”
Since the terrible accident, the couple has worked hard to pick up the pieces of their lives and continue with their lives.
Michael said Turia does not want other people to pity her or feel sorry for her in any way. She merely desires to move on with her life, and in addition to that, she is beautiful and amazing.
However, despite all of this, they thought their lives were missing something.
They had the goal of beginning a family.
In 2017, Turia announced on Instagram that she was expecting the couple’s first child, which would be their first child together.
The news quickly spread throughout Australia, where many people have been following the couple’s journey over the years that followed.
Even though she wouldn’t be able to participate in a marathon for a while, the soon-to-be mom explained that she would make sure to maintain her fitness level throughout her pregnancy.
And shortly after, they were blessed with a child!
On December 7, 2017, Michael and Turia became parents for the first time, and they named their boy Hakavai. The couple made the happy announcement on February 9, 2020, that they had given birth to their second child, another son whom they named Rahiti Hoskin.
They got married and are currently rearing their kid together in a happy marriage.
What an uplifting tale showing how love can win over even the biggest challenges!
Michael and Turia are a couple who should serve as an example to others, and their story is a powerful example of what love is all about.
